What can I use instead of PVC primer?
The only substitute for primer is cleaner. Both contain MEK (Methyl Ethyl Keytone) and Acytone (and other mean chemicals).
Can PVC be glued?
The process involves applying primer to the outside of the pipe and the inside of the fitting, which cleans and preps the PVC. Simple as that sounds, gluing PVC pipe is easy to mess up, and if you make a mistake, there’s no going back—you’ll have to cut out the pipe and start over.
Do I need to sand PVC before gluing?
In know that PVC should be chamfered and even lightly sanded before gluing for better insertion on the fitting (and probably some other reason). No sanding, no chamfering and no wiping with primer.
What happens if you don’t use primer on PVC?
A non primed joint will separate with far less force than a primed joint. Usually if primed the fitting or pipe will break before the pipe will actually pull out of the fitting hub. If unprimed the pipe will actually cleanly separate from the fitting under the right conditions. Pvc will not bond without primer.

PVC pipes and joint fittings are typically glued together with PVC solvent glue. But if you have a leak in a PVC drain pipe, often you can repair it temporarily until there’s time for a permanent fix. Drain pipes are not pressurized, which makes temporary repairs relatively effective.
