What does it mean when it says too expensive?
It states that anvils are “capped” at level 40, i.e., anything that costs more than 40 levels to enchant, rename, or repair, is “too expensive”. However, it also states that a workaround is to rename it first. This (by what I understand) should “reset” the cost, to some degree.
Why does it cost so much XP to repair my pickaxe?
1 Answer. The problem occurs because of how powerful the tool is, and because it contains a vast amount of enchantments. You get the “too expensive!” note if you don’t have enough exp, but you’re trying to repair it with another diamond pickaxe, not raw diamonds.
Why does anvil say too expensive?
If the cost of your anvil combination is 40 or more, it will just say “Too Expensive” and won’t let you do it. The more times an item has been repaired or enchanted within an anvil, the more it will cost to repair or enchant later.
Can a Level 1 villager have mending?

Can you get a mending villager in bedrock?
Villager trading! It’s the only reliable way. You can easily get bows and fishing rods with Mending from fishing but Mending books are very rare.
Is mending incompatible with Unbreaking?
Infinity and Mending are mutually exclusive. You would have to play in version 1.8.
Can a tool with mending break?
Simply put, a Fishing Rod equipped with Mending will never break and rarely (if ever) need to be repaired or maintained. One important note: Mending is mutually exclusive with Infinity.
